How does Civil Unions in Italy work?
In order to be civilly united, both parties must fill out an application to request the establishment of a civil union in front of the Municipal Registrar.
When submitting the application, it will be possible to make an appointment to prepare the record of the request to establish a civil union.
We as your Counselor can attend the appointment on your behalf with a power of attorney so that you don’t need to come in Italy two times.
The registrar, before the parties or their designated person, will sign the record in which the date the parties intend to appear for the establishment of the union.
The civil union may be formed 15 days after the formation of the drafting of the report have been drawn up and within 180 days from that date.
A foreign citizen who intends to form a civil union in Italy must also submit a statement from the competent authority of the country of origin showing that there are no impediments to the civil union.
