Atto Notorio is notarial act necessary to get married in Italy if you are from USA or Australia.

You will need two witnesses unrelated to you, holding a valid identity document, who will state before the Italian Consular Officer (in the USA or Australia) that the spouse is of free marital status and that they are in compliance with the laws to which the citizen is subject in the United States (or Australia) and Italy, there are no legal impediments to their marriage (i.e., they are not married or are divorced or widowed).

You will need the assistance of an interpreter who knows both the language you understand and the Italian language.

Please note that regardless you will issue the Atto Notorio in your country of provenance or in Italy, this type of act expires in 90 days; therefore make the right calculation concerning your wedding date!

The atto notorio in the US (or in Australia)

The Atto Notorio can be issued either at the Consulate General of Italy in the U.S.A. (or Australia if the applicant is Australian), or at a notary public in the U.S.A. (or Australia) with the formality of apostille (legalization due to The Hague Convention).
The atto notorio must state that, according to the laws to which the bride and groom are subject in the U.S.A.(or Australia), there are no impediments to the marriage they intend to contract in Italy.
