This guide will walk you through all the necessary steps to ensure a smooth and legally valid wedding in Italy.
📌 How to Obtain a Marriage Nulla Osta for a Civil Wedding in Italy
📍 The Marriage Nulla Osta (Nulla Osta al Matrimonio) is a legal document issued by the Russian Consulate in Italy that confirms there are no impediments to your marriage under Russian law.
📌 Required Documents Based on Marital Status:
✅ If You Have Never Been Married
- Proof of no previous marriage from the Russian state archive (“EGR ZAGS”)
- Valid Russian international passport (original)
- Valid internal Russian passport (original)
- Birth certificate (original or notarized copy)
✅ If You Were Previously Married (No Name Change)
- Proof of no previous marriage from the Russian state archive (“EGR ZAGS”)
- Valid Russian international passport
- Valid internal Russian passport
- Birth certificate (original or notarized copy)
- Divorce certificate (original or notarized copy)
✅ Additional Documents Required If:
- Your surname, name, or patronymic has changed → A certificate proving the name change issued by the Civil Status Office.
- You are a widower → A marriage certificate & spouse’s death certificate must be provided.
📌 Important Notes:
- The EGR ZAGS document can only be obtained in Russia, even by proxy.
- The Marriage Nulla Osta is usually issued within 5 business days in Rome and on the same day in Milan, depending on availability.
📌 Additional Legal Provisions for Russian Citizens
📍 In addition to the Marriage Nulla Osta, Russian citizens must:
✅ Provide a declaration of absence of impediments, signed before the Russian Consular Officers.
✅ Book an appointment at the Russian Consulate (Rome or Milan) online or in person.
📍 How We Assist You:
✅ We handle all consular formalities required by the Russian Consulate.
✅ We book your appointment and assist in issuing the Marriage Nulla Osta.
✅ We legalize the Nulla Osta at the competent Prefettura (if required).
📌 Legalization Requirements
- Since March 9, 2021, the Russian Federation adheres to the London Convention of June 7, 1968.
- This means that a Russian Nulla Osta issued in Italy might not require further legalization.
📌 Russian Consular Fees for a Civil Wedding in Italy
📍 Official Fees (As of 2024):
- 💰 €10 → Attestation of authenticity of the signature on the certificate confirming unmarried status.
- 💰 €35 → Certification of translation accuracy from Russian to Italian.
📌 Fees may vary depending on the consular office and exchange rates.
