How Can a Ukrainian Citizen Get Married in Italy?

Civil marriage requirements for Ukrainian citizens in Italy

For Ukrainian citizens who are planning a civil wedding ceremony in Italy, there are essential legal requirements that must be met.

This comprehensive guide will walk you through each legal step to ensure your legal destination wedding will go smoothly.

Obtaining the “Nulla Osta al matrimonio” for Ukrainian citizens.

Before planning a civil wedding ceremony in Italy, Ukrainian citizens must secure a marriage Nulla Osta issued by the Ukrainian Consulate in Rome.

Here are the documents you mail to us to request the Nulla Osta in the Ukrainian Consulate in Rome (Please note that your presence is unnecessary, so we can attend the appointment on your behalf with a proxy).

  1. Ukrainian Passport: Prepare your original passport with three photocopies of the first page.
  2. Birth Certificate: An original copy of your birth certificate with a single photocopy.
  3. Notarial Declaration: A notarial declaration from a Ukrainian notary stating your current marital status and that there are no legal impediments to your marriage as per Ukrainian law.
  4. Civil Status Certification: An extract from the Public Register of Civil Status, which validates your premarital surname.
  5. Divorce or Death Certificate: If applicable, the original divorce certificate or death certificate of a previous spouse should be provided, along with a photocopy.
  6. Residence Certificate: An original residence certificate in Ukraine, which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of issue.

The good news is that these documents can be submitted to the Consular Office in Ukrainian. No Italian translation is required.

Additionally, the future spouse must submit a written declaration, consenting to use their personal data, such as name, surname, residence, date, and place of birth, in the Nulla Osta. This declaration should be personally submitted at the Consular Office with an original identity document and three photocopies.

According to Italian regulations, the issued Nulla Osta is valid for six months from the release date, giving you ample time to finalize your wedding arrangements in Italy.

Remember, preparing for a civil wedding in Italy requires careful planning and adherence to legal procedures.
